What is KCTCS Online?

KCTCS OnlineThe Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) offers students the opportunity to take individual courses or earn a degree at one of our many convenient campus locations as well as through our innovative online learning program. As a pioneer in online education, KCTCS has one of the most established and innovative online initiatives in Kentucky: KCTCS Online.

While online education isn’t for everyone, many students who cannot attend classes on campus due to scheduling conflicts, childcare, work or other commitments find that KCTCS Online makes quality higher education highly accessible, affordable, and flexible. KCTCS Online courses require a computer with Internet access and an e-mail account. In addition, online learning requires a certain amount of computer savvy. Learners should know basic word processing, how to send and receive e-mail, and how to make attachments. KCTCS Online classes require communication with faculty and other students via e-mail or discussion groups, taking online tests or proctored tests, and submitting various assignments via attachments.

KCTCS Online offers two convenient online options: Learn by Term and Learn on Demand. Both of these online opportunities offer numerous program and course options. Students must designate a KCTCS college as the Home College, and the Home College accepts all system-wide online courses delivered by other KCTCS colleges. The KCTCS Home College must have program approval to award the program credential.

You Choose the Right Fit

Our more traditional online offering, Learn by Term offers typical semester-long courses online. Many complete affordable online degree, certificate, and diploma programs are offered through the Learn by Term traditional distance learning model. While these offerings are primarily offered online, some require exams and lab activities which may require on-site visits at an approved location convenient for the student.

A revolution in online education, Learn on Demand offers both parent courses and bite-size classes. Bite-size classes are about 3-5 weeks long and are called “modules”. Learn on Demand parent course offerings are 15-weeks long and include all modules required in a parent course. You can start on a schedule you choose. Modules build toward complete parent courses for affordable degrees, certificates, and diplomas. While these offerings are primarily offered online, some require exams and lab activities that may take place at an approved location convenient for the student.
