Historically, the Vietnamese education has been notably
top-down. Access to higher education has been determined—and
limited—by a standardized entrance examination. Traditionally,
students scoring high have attended major nationally supported
universities. However, in this country where 65% of its 80
million residents are under the age of 26, these public universities
have been unable to admit as many students as would attend. |
| Since the fall of 1975, the country has been unable
to meet the demand of higher education…Vietnam is
a country that needs draftpeople, not architects. This is
a country that has come to understand the connection between
national economy and the development of human resources.
Currently a small number of community colleges, cao dang,
exist.
