"You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving." - Amy Carmichael

So many alumni and friends of Southeast continue to express their love by giving of their time, money, and talents to the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign efforts. Since the Spring 2003 edition of SOUTHEAST SUCCESS, the Resource Development Office assisted by President Bruce Ayers, and Dr. Jim Selby, campaign consultant with The Clements Group for KCTCS, has been working to prepare for the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign at Southeast Community College.

In August, discussions were held with Dr. Ayers and Dr. Selby to plan for identifying prospects, and the development of marketing materials and a CASE for support. Further, Dr. Selby reviewed the necessary physical support for a major gifts campaign and the internal/external campaign structure suggested by KCTCS with SECC administration and staff.

In late September initial meetings were held with both the Oversight Committee and the Internal/Family Campaign Committee. A list of possible campaign leaders, as well as some fund raising ideas came out of the initial Oversight Committee meeting. The end result of the first Internal/Family Campaign Committee meeting was the determination of a solicitation process, and the beginning and ending dates (February 1 through mid-March, 2004) for the internal/family portion of the campaign.

October found The Resource Development Office busy writing the script and organizing interviews for the video tape that will be used during the campaign. On Monday, October 20, SECC staff and friends gathered on the Cumberland Campus in one of the ITV classrooms for the "statewide" KCTCS Fulfilling the Promise Campaign kickoff. Ed Parsons, CEO of The Bank of Harlan was on hand to present a check for $10,000 as the first payment toward a campaign commitment of $70,000 to be used for books and software in the library on SECC's Harlan Campus. In acknowledgement of the gift, Southeast will name the area encompassing the library, computer laboratory and GED classroom in Building #1, The Bank of Harlan Support Services Center.

Now, with the holidays fast approaching, plans are being made to contact potential county campaign leaders, to set up additional committee meetings, to begin work on the CASE and other campaign marketing materials, to plan and hold an alumni meeting, to prepare for the annual Reverse Raffle, and to produce and mail the Fall 2003 Annual Fund letter.

All of these activities and more are necessary if Southeast is going to be able to continue to provide in the words of President Ayers, "access with excellence" in the midst of greatly reduced funding from the state and federal governments. However, based on the support we've received so far from you, our alumni and friends, we believe our portion of the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign will be successful! Thank you so much, and happy holidays!
