Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College - Harlan Campus
Timeline
1938 - First Technical School in Harlan. Called, at that time, Harlan County Vocational School.
The school started with the programs Electricity, Auto Mechanics, and Welding.
1940s-1950s - School spread out over several buildings in Harlan. School expanded to include Autobody, Carpentry, and Machine Shop.
1961 - Property for today's facility was obtained
1962 - Cornerstone of building one was laid by Governor Bert T. Combs and School Superintendent James A. Cawood.
1962 - First Permanent structure school named Harlan Area Vocational School
1968 - Second Permanent Structure Built School Named Harlan State Vocational School/Regional Office with branches in Bell County, and Knox County
1975 - Regional Office Moves to London
1980 - Third and forth structures were added to the Harlan Campus: The Mining Industry Building and The Simulated Mine. This brought the building space on campus to 112,000 square feet of instructional space and approximately 36 acres.
1992 - Renamed Harlan Regional Technology Center
1994 - Renamed Kentucky Tech Harlan Campus
1997 - Renamed Laurel Technical College Harlan
1998 - Combined with the Cumberland Valley Health Technology Center to become Cumberland Valley Technical College.
2002 - January: Merged officially with Southeast Community College becoming part of one of the largest community and technical college districts in the state.
2002 - Renamed Southeast Community College Harlan Campus
2002 - $100,000 renovation of building 2 that included floors, ceilings and walls.
2003 - received funding to update the original structure on the campus and it underwent a 4.3 Million Dollar renovation
2004 - Renamed Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College Harlan Campus
