Citizens National Bank has made a $100,000 commitment over the next five years to the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign for Somerset Community College. Clay Parker Davis, President and CEO of Citizens National Bank, recently presented the commitment to Steve Merrick, President of Somerset Wood Products, who is Co-Chair of the Campaign along with Charlene Harris, CEO of First National Bank of Russell Springs.
The $20,000 donated each year will be used to improve academic programs and services for students. "We at Citizens National Bank have benefited from the College in so many ways, and the area benefits as well. Somerset provides an excellent college education to students whether they are going to work immediately after SCC graduation or moving on to a four-year college. The bank's commitment will help ensure that the high quality at SCC will continue," said Davis. He added that he hoped the commitment by Citizens will encourage other businesses in the area to support the Campaign.
Clay Parker Davis is a member of the Somerset CC Board of Directors and a past chair of that group. Mr. Davis also served as Chair of the Board Campaign for SCC. Richard E. Cooper, Chairman of the Board of Citizens National Bank, is also the Honorary Chair of the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign and a former member of the SCC Board of Directors. "The College has been the most important thing to come here in the history of our county; it behooves all of us to liberally support the College in all of its endeavors," said Mr. Cooper.
Dr. Jo Marshall, SCC President, accepted the commitment on behalf of the students of Somerset Community College. "This campaign is designed to help students very directly
with improved instructional and technical equipment; Citizens' gift will keep us moving forward to make sure we provide academic excellence in every course we offer," emphasized Marshall.
According to Ann Zwick, SCC Chief Institutional Advancement Officer, the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign, has now received over $2,400,000 in cash and pledges. "This commitment from Citizens National Bank keeps the campaign moving in a very positive direction. We are thrilled with the progress of the Campaign and look forward to encouraging participation from throughout the Somerset Community College service area. We deeply appreciate the commitment Citizens National Bank has made to the College and our community," she concluded.
