SCC Family fundraising campaign leaders - Somerset Community College has completed the internal or family portion of their "Fulfilling the Promise" fundraising campaign. Ninety-two percent of the employees of the College contributed more than $100,000 to the effort. Shown here from the top are the Family Campaign Leaders: Bruce Gover, Sharon Whitehead, David Wiles and Clara Minton.
Faculty, staff, administrators and board members of Somerset Community College have kicked off the fund-raising for the campaign in a big way with 100% of the Board of Directors and 92% of employees already participating in the campaign. Over $128,000 has been pledged or given to the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign with proceeds going to Academic Excellence, Technology and Innovation, and Allied Health projects throughout the College's service area.

"We are thrilled with the response of our family and our Board," said Charlene Harris and Steve Merrick, campaign chairs; "their commitment to the campaign challenges all of us to get behind this effort to raise critical funds in this campaign." Harris and Merrick pointed out that commitments have been made at all five locations where classes are offered---the Somerset and London campuses as well as the centers at Clinton, McCreary, and Russell counties.

Chairman of the Board Campaign was Clay Parker Davis, a member of the Board of Directors and long-time supporter of Somerset College. "Our Board is committed to excellence in every respect, and the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign will help us raise the funds that will help us maintain that excellence," explained Davis. Davis pointed out that the financial needs of the College cannot be met from tuition and state funding alone.

"We continue to grow while the state is caught in a period of little or no revenue growth; obviously we have to pitch in to help meet this gap in funding."

Leading the Family campaign for faculty, staff and administration were Bruce Gover, Clara Minton, Sharon Whitehead, and David Wiles. Gover is an Assistant Professor in Computer and Business Technology, Minton is Assistant Bookstore Manager at the London Campus, Whitehead is a professor of English and Director of the McCreary Center, and Wiles is Chief Community Workforce and Economic Development Officer. Commenting of behalf of the four leaders, Sharon Whitehead said "we are very impressed with the support of our Family members; leading this campaign was a lot of work but has been very rewarding.

Dr. Jo Marshall, President of SCC, is also impressed with the results of these two Divisions of the campaign. "In my four years at SCC, I have come to believe that we have some of the best professionals in any college," Marshall said. "I also knew that they were the kind of people this area could count on to show leadership and dedication to a cause. We continue to reach new levels of accomplishment through their dedication and leadership."

Ann Zwick, Chief Advancement Officer and Campaign Manager, said that the next part of the campaign will be to move to the communities for their support. "We are just starting the Fulfilling the Promise campaign," she pointed out, "but this start is a very rewarding step in our campaign plan."
