Somerset Case for Support
INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

In response to the best advice of business, government, and civic leaders in the region, SCC has identified four initiatives for the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign that will greatly enhance our capacity to meet the needs of our service area for years to come.

In order to provide hope and opportunity for future generations, SCC's Campaign must successfully address four key areas:
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION, ALLIED HEALTH, and a TECHNOLOGY CENTER IN LONDON.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE - Meeting the unmet needs of the College $1,000,000
No one understands what a College needs as do the faculty, staff and students. Often critical needs go unmet because other more pressing demands take priority.

This unrestricted fund gives the College the flexibility to respond to opportunities and challenges quickly. Many times these are opportunities that must be acted upon immediately. The Academic Excellence fund will support students, faculty and staff through scholarships, professional development, expanded study opportunities and other unmet needs. All great institutions of higher education rely on the flow of annual income from unrestricted funds to meet the ever-increasing demands for innovation, creativity and rapid response.

Josh Campbell
JOSH CAMPBELL, SCC Alum
Pre-Med Student at U of L
"I was better prepared than my peers to enter a university because of my enrollment as a high school junior at Somerset Community College. SCC gave me a strong academic foundation which has enabled me to achieve the dean's list my first two semesters at U of L."

TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION - The constant need to upgrade technology and industrial machinery $250,000 current; $750,000 endowment
Training students on the latest computers and machinery is essential to producing high quality job applicants for business and industry. In order for Somerset Community College to prepare graduates who are ready for the rapidly changing industries of the 21st century, modern, sophisticated equipment is required. Highly trained graduates of Somerset Community College who can use the most up-to-date technology can help our communities attract new industry and support economic development.

Greg Jones
GREG JONES, Executive Director
Southern Kentucky Economic Development Corporation
"Somerset Community College is an important player in attracting high tech business and industry to the region. This campaign is important because it will allow the College to acquire the equipment necessary to provide both training to new businesses and industry as well as provide retraining to existing businesses and industry."

ALLIED HEALTH - Teaching health occupation is an expensive program $250,000 current; $750,000 endowment
As Somerset Community College moves forward in creating additional educational opportunities for students in health care, the College will need money to purchase expensive medical equipment and to hire qualified teaching professionals. Our region's health care community is growing rapidly. While Somerset Community College now offers eight health care occupational programs, the need for new health care technicians is expanding. Physicians and hospitals need qualified technicians and the College is providing them.

JEFF SERAPHINE
JEFF SERAPHINE, President & CEO
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital
"The College has been able to bring qualified health professionals to our medical community. Our medical community is stronger, people are finding education and jobs here in Somerset, and together we're growing a regional medical community that benefits all of us."

TECHNOLOGY CENTER IN LONDON - Looking to the future $2,500,000
Constructing a Technology Center on the Laurel Campus North will provide a leading edge facility for all college technology programs in the London area. Additional college programs on the beautiful Laurel Campus North will foster a collegiate spirit, a sense of community ownership and a more efficient operation.

Technology Center

Additionally, a Technology Center will allow for new programs such as Nursing and other health occupations as well as training in emerging technologies, all of which will benefit the citizens and industries in the Laurel County area.

LAWRENCE KUHL
LAWRENCE KUHL, Laurel County Judge-Executive
"A new building on the Laurel Campus will provide space for Allied Health programs as well as training for emerging technologies which will be very beneficial to our students and also help our businesses and industries in the Laurel County area. It will give our students and our citizens the competitive edge that we need."
