Owensboro Case for Support
IS OUR COLLEGE WORTH THE INVESTMENT? YOU BET IT IS!

"Quality is a race with no finish line."

(In response to his corporation winning the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award)

When Kentucky legislators, business and industry leaders, and citizens of our region combined the community and technical colleges, in part to increase the college-going rate for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, they demonstrated tremendous foresight. Owensboro Community and Technical College responded by exceeding even the goals set by our leadership. Following are examples of this response:
  • 2002 Ranked 4th in the Nation in enrollment growth for colleges of its size by Community College Week
  • 2002 Recipient of Commonwealth of Kentucky Quality Council's Performance Excellence Achievement Award (Baldrige Process)
  • Only higher education institution to achieve Level III Kentucky Quality Award
  • 2002 Recipient of Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Award for Community and Economic Development
  • 2002 Recipient of MidAtlantic ACT WorkKeys Assessment "College of the Year"
  • 2002 Recipient of International Learning Resources Network (LERN) Award for Excellence (3rd time winner)
  • 2002 Achieved 57% increase in customized training with over 280 businesses and industries served
  • 1st Consolidated college in Kentucky to gain approval of combined name: Owensboro Community and Technical College
  • 100% Pass rate for Surgical Technology, Associate Degree Nursing, and Radiography students on national exams
  • 2002 National USA Today Scholar Award Recipient from the Commonwealth
  • 1st OCTC Faculty member named as Dale Parnell Scholar by Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society

These achievements are the kind of excellence you can continue to expect as a return on your investment in Owensboro Community and Technical College.

"The establishment of Owensboro Community College in 1986 marked the beginning of a new and multifaceted institution. With an initial enrollment of slightly more than 200 students, who would have believed that, from this humble beginning, this institution would serve over 8,000 students during this academic year? The consolidation of Owensboro Community College with Owensboro Technical College to create OCTC was a landmark accomplishment for our region& but, our journey toward excellence must never end."
