Leadership announced for MCC's fundraising campaign
Madisonville Community College has
announced that two key leadership positions
have been named in support of the
college's Fulfilling the Promise Major Gifts
Campaign. Steve Cox, Chairman & CEO of
First United Bank, and (Retired) Kentucky
Supreme Court Justice Thomas Spain have
been named General Chairman and Honorary
Chairman, respectively. Both men have
long been active in local community service
and educational endeavors, especially in association
with MCC. Cox is currently Chairman
of the Madisonville College Foundation,
and Justice Spain served as a Foundation
member for over two decades.
Fulfilling the Promise is a long-term development
effort that began planning efforts
in July 2002; its goal is to increase permanent,
long-term private support for scholarships
(especially the School Counts program),
the college's Quality Endowment, and
endowment support for the Glema Mahr Center
for the Arts.
Cox, whose bank recently
pledged a long-term financial commitment to
the Glema Center, sees the campaign as vital
to the College, and its history of excellence in
academic programming. "I truly believe the
College is the life-blood of our community's
success. Private support enhances the ability
to serve students, arts patrons, and our
manufacturing base. A campaign based on
increased private giving only helps to better
serve those groups, and creates a better climate
for economic development, retail growth,
and strengthening of our local workforce."
MCC President Dr. Judy Rhoads will
announce a campaign goal soon; solicitations
have been completed among all college
employees and board members, as well
as numerous community prospects and college
friends who have been long-time contributors.
All campaign-related solicitations
should be completed by March 2005. Other
individuals who have helped the college in
the development of Fulfilling the Promise
include Lead Gifts Chair Mark Eastin, Bonita
Hatfield, of Marion, who chaired the
campaign's Board Division, and Kent Mills,
Chairman of the Prospect Evaluation Committee.
Cox and Justice Spain will be the two
major volunteer appointments to the entire
campaign. Their counterparts for the
college's first campaign -- Partners in
Progress -- were General Richard Frymire,
who served as General Chair, and Dr. Loman
Trover, the campaign's Honorary Chair.
