Campaign hits $1.7 million mark
Endowment investment
increases $520,000
John Peters, Development Director &
Campaign Manager, announced that Madisonville
Community College's Fulfilling the
Promise campaign has hit the $1.7 million
mark in gifts and pledges, including an overall
increase in the college's endowment investment
by $520,000.
The campaign, which began its planning
phase in July 2002, has four major giving
priorities; a synopsis of gifts-to-date in
each of the four priorities is provided on page
four of this update.
Since November, MCC has been involved
in solicitation of lead and advanced
gift prospects, or those contributors who can
provide the largest pledges and gifts over
five years. Mark Eastin, current Treasurer
of the Madisonville College Foundation, has
served as Chair of the Lead Gifts Division,
and twelve gifts of at least $50,000 have been
received in the last eighteen months.
NEW SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Engineering Technology faculty member
Daniel Nance announced Melissa Lee
and Kim Durall are the first recipients of the
William Groves Family Scholarship Endowment.
The endowment provides tuition support
for outstanding students enrolled in the
college's engineering technology program,
and was established by the members of the
Bill Groves, Jeff Groves, Robert Groves, and
Brenda Sharber families. Durall will graduate
in May 2004, and Lee will graduate in
December.
GENTRY ENDOWMENT
Elizabeth Gentry and her husband,
Darrel, recently provided a $10,000 gift to
establish a scholarship endowment at MCC.
The endowment will provide tuition support
for an outstanding student from Muhlenberg
County with a major in pre-medicine, prepharmacy,
or the biological sciences. The
Gentrys, both pharmacists from Central City,
have provided support for MCC endeavors
since 1995.
ENDOWMENT GROWTH IN
CRITTENDEN COUNTY
The Crittenden County Endowment for
Excellence has obtained four pledges of at
least $10,000 during the 2004 Academic Year.
The goal for the Crittenden portion of the
Fulfilling the Promise Campaign is to establish
a total of $400,000 in endowment principle
to financially support any eligible
Crittenden high school graduate who wants
to attend MCC. The endowment was started
through an original $15,000 donation by
Marion's Town & Country Riding Club. The
endowment currently provides tuition support
for one Crittenden graduate each year;
the 2004 student is Jay Thompson of
Marion, who is majoring in Engineering Technology.
Bonita Hatfield, Board of Directors Division
Chairperson of the Fulfilling the
Promise Gifts Campaign, and her husband
Jim have themselves established a scholarship
endowment, 'The Bonita & Jim Hatfield
Scholarship Endowment,' which will support
a Crittenden County graduate each year at
MCC.
A SPECIAL THANKS
Recogntion goes to Bob Dampier and
the Trover Foundation for continuing its
long-time legacy of generosity to MCC; the Foundation is currently the largest contributor
to the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign
with $413,000 pledged to date, specifically
for allied health and arts support.
A special thanks goes to contributors
to the Stan Lewis Memorial Fund who keep
Stan's memory and good deeds alive. You
may be gone, but definitely not forgotten
old friend; the Lewis Memorial Fund now
has a fund balance of $10,500, and will now
be endowed as a permanent tribute to Mr.
Lewis, who served MCC with distinction for
28 years.
