Bowling Green Questions & Answers

Why is BGTC conducting a major gifts campaign?

Bowling Green Technical College (BGTC) has a proud history of providing high quality, accessible, and affordable education to the citizens in our communities. While student success and open access have always been our hallmark, decreasing state funds and increasing student tuition are providing new challenges. Approximately 48% of the College's budget comes from the state. Student tuition accounts for another 21% (student tuition has increased by 34% over the past two years). Additional resources from other governmental sources and the private sector must be secured to expand access and to continue to meet the needs of our students and this community. Conducting a major gifts campaign enables the college to secure these additional resources and support from the community.

What are the campaign priorities?

A feasibility study was conducted in November of 2001 to determine, among other things, what projects the community would likely support. Community members, business and industry representatives, board members, college faculty, staff and administration were interviewed during the feasibility study. The following four initiatives were identified as being the most likely to receive public support:
  • Allied Health
  • Equipment and Technology Enhancements
  • Endowment- Unrestricted and Scholarship
  • Unrestricted Fund

    What is the campaign goal?

Our feasibility study indicated that we are in a position to begin a campaign and to raise significant funds. Currently we are in the "silent phase" of our campaign and will be prepared to publicly announce our goal in the spring of 2005.

    Why should I support a state-assisted institution?

The college receives state support for basic college operations. To provide additional services and to broaden educational access to members of our community, private investments are sought from citizens who value the benefits received from higher education--particularly within their communities.

How can I support the campaign?

This is a community-based campaign, and your participation can make a tremendous difference to the campaign's success. We have many committees and would value your service on a committee.
