Benefactors of the Year, 2004OWENSBORO COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGEBack to BenefactorsBank of Ohio County, Beaver Dam Honored by Owensboro Community and Technical College The Bank of Ohio County and its president, Jon Lawson, are benefactors to Owensboro Community and Technical College in a number of ways. Mr. Lawson has provided leadership to the College's Board of Directors for over 12 years and as chairman for four years. The College honors Jon Lawson and the Bank of Ohio County for the establishment of the Ohio County Scholarship Endowment, which serves the second highest student enrollment in College's service area. BB&T, Owensboro Honored by Owensboro Community and Technical College BB&T (Branch Banking & Trust) is a benefactor to each community it serves. It is not surprising that on National Philanthropic Day, BB&T was named Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation. Owensboro Community and Technical College honors BB&T for its support of the Student Success Scholarship Endowment. Owensboro Medical Health System, Owensboro Honored by Owensboro Community and Technical College Owensboro Medical Health System (OMHS) and Owensboro Community and Technical College serve as a model partnership incorporating education, healthcare and the community. As the premier regional health care provider, OMHS continues a long-standing relationship providing educational opportunities for hospital employees, allied health care students, and the professional development of allied health faculty and staff. Dr. Jeff Barber, CEO, also provides leadership on the OCTC Foundation Board. The College honors Dr. Barber and OMHS for its continued support of allied health programs. Marjorie and John Hager have devoted their lives to improving the community, the region, and beyond. Together they founded the Public Life Foundation, which promotes community development and citizen activism and a climate of openness so that community members can be informed on all sides of issues. As a founder of Owensboro Community and Technical College, Mr. Hager serves as director emeritus on the Foundation Board and as a mentor and advisor to the College leadership. Mrs. Hager champions many philanthropic and civic organizations and activities in the Owensboro community. The College honors Mr. and Mrs. Hager for their establishment of the Marjorie and John Hager Endowment for the Humanities. Jean Wells, co-owner of Wells Health Systems, Inc., is a leader in healthcare for the elderly on local and state levels. Headquartered in Owensboro, Ms. Wells currently owns or operates 19 facilities in Kentucky. She is a former student of the community college system.
