In 1999, Margaret C. Boggs and her family created a scholarship to honor her husband, Dr. Eli C. Boggs. Dr. Boggs was known as "the old country doctor" who had practiced medicine in Hazard for over 50 years and had delivered over 10,000 babies. Mrs. Boggs wanted to honor her husband with a scholarship in his name at the College. Dr. Boggs served on the Hazard Independent College Foundation since its inception in the 1960s and was honorary chairman of The Campaign for Hazard Community College. In addition to the scholarship, Mrs. Boggs is a long-time supporter of the Greater Hazard Area Performing Arts Series. Hazard Community and Technical College is honored to call Mrs. Boggs its friend.

Five years ago, a group of people organized by the Hazard Clinic came together to raise money for the Hazard Clinic's effort in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life by hosting a Christmas Ball. During planning sessions, this special group formed Christmas for Charity Inc., a not for profit foundation, and decided to dedicate its time and energy during the holiday season to organizing an annual event to benefit different organizations in the Hazard and Perry County area. The fifth annual Christmas for Charity Ball was dedicated to Hazard Community and Technical College's University Center of the Mountains. The event raised more than $30,000 and is the most successful to date.
