Ms. Martha C. Johnson is the consummate volunteer leader and benefactor. She provided extraordinary leadership during her six-year term on the inaugural KCTCS Board of Regents and was elected as Board Chair by fellow regents for three consecutive one-year terms from 1997-2001. Under Marthas leadership, KCTCS grew into the efficient and effective organization it is today. Ms. Johnson is a 1974 graduate of Ashland Community College. She transferred to Western Kentucky University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976. She later served as a member of the Ashland Community College Advisory Board. Martha is Vice President for Divisional Communications for Ashland Inc. and resides in Lexington with her husband Jim. Martha played an instrumental role in securing the very first contribution to the KCTCS Foundation in 1999 from Ashland Inc. and a major commitment from Speedway Super-America LLC to Ashland Community and Technical College. Martha and Jim have personally donated generously to Ashland Community and Technical College and to the KCTCS Foundation, which established a scholarship in her honor to support KCTCS students transferring to four-year institutions. She was recently appointed to a three-year term on the KCTCS Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors and served as the Chair of the Boards Division for the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign for KCTCS achieving 100% participation. In addition to her service to KCTCS, she also serves on the Leadership Kentucky Board, the Prichard Committee, and as a volunteer for the Partnership for Kentucky Schools. KCTCS is forever grateful to Martha for her leadership and generosity.

A Kentucky Colonel is an individual who has been fortunate in his or her life to make a contribution to society. This recognition by the Commonwealth of Kentucky not only signifies achievement...it also affords new opportunities to serve. The dedication of the Kentucky Colonels to furthering the accomplishments in life of those who are in need of help - spiritually, mentally and physically is as legendary as the title of Kentucky Colonel itself. The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels Good Works Program began in 1937. This year, members of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels contributed funds that allowed the Colonels to make over $1,300,000 in grants to 176 charitable and educational organizations across the state. The charitable work of the Kentucky Colonels is made possible through the donations of the members of the Honorable Order, who are challenged to become even more active in the advancement of Kentucky and Kentuckians. The Kentucky Colonels recently announced its commitment of $320,000 to The Fulfilling the Promise Campaign to establish the Better Life Scholarship Program to support scholarships in each of the 16 KCTCS districts. The scholarship will support single working parents who are raising young children and attempting to attend college full-time. KCTCS is deeply grateful for their generous support to our students.
