Rodney and Sharon Handshoe arrived on the campus of Prestonsburg Community College in 1971 and immediately became active during their years as students. Their life choice path brought them home to make a difference in the Big Sandy area. Dr. Handshoe has a busy cardiology practice and is a member of the Board of Directors of Highlands Regional Medical Center. He is a longtime member of the Board of the Big Sandy Community and Technical College and the Big Sandy College Educational Foundation, Inc. Mrs. Handshoe operates a busy cardiac ultrasound service in addition to fulfilling her responsibilities as a mother of three sons. She is active in her church and in organizations such as the Jenny Wiley Theatre. The Handshoes possess a personal vision of quality and excellence for education at the Big Sandy Community and Technical College campuses. They have been dedicated friends and partners in supporting the College with their time and talents for many years. |

The First Commonwealth Bank of Prestonsburg has been a strong supporter of the Big Sandy Community and Technical College from its inception. Mr. Burl Spurlock, President of First Commonwealth Bank from 1945-1972, was one of the founders of the Big Sandy College Development Corporation, whose goal was to acquire land for the purpose of constructing Prestonsburg Community College. Burl Wells Spurlock, the son of Burl Spurlock, and Chairman of First Commonwealth Bank, was appointed to the Board of Directors of Prestonsburg Community College in 1973. In 1989, the Development Corporation became the Big Sandy College Educational Foundation, Inc. Burl became a leading director of the Foundation. Mr. Greg Wilson, the current Bank president, assists with many activities of the Big Sandy Community and Technical College. |
