As founding president of Southeast Community College, Dr. Edsel T. Godbey has played a major role in the success of the College throughout its history. During his time at Southeast, Dr. Godbey developed a strong attachment to the College and the communities it serves. He has made regular visits to Southeast and served as a mentor and advisor. He has assisted the College in securing several awards and grants, including a $500,000 Endowment Challenge Grant. As a further testament of his support, Dr. Godbey named Southeast as the sole beneficiary of a $635,000 charitable remainder annuity unitrust. The Trust will support the Colleges Appalachian Center, which is now named in honor of Dr. Godbey.
