In 1998 James J. Plum established a scholarship in memory of his late wife, Barbara Plum, who was a part-time Early Childhood Education instructor at JCC until her untimely death in 1997. Mrs. Plum received a bachelor�s degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master�s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and spent her entire professional career working to fulfill her desire to having a real and lasting impact on the lives of young children. Co-workers and friends described her as a motivator, leader, and enthusiastic supporter of children and education. Through the endowment established by her husband, Barbara Plum continues to have a positive influence on many lives. |

In 1997 Bank One became the title sponsor of the JCC Educational Foundation�s Bank One Jefferson Series, a lecture series that features nationally and internationally known speakers. The Bank provided the entire Louisville community with the opportunity to listen to and interact with world figures while also bringing exposure to Jefferson Community College and its programs. Without Bank One�s direct financial support of over $135,000 along with all its in-kind support, this unique educational and cultural event would not have taken place. |

Over the past two decades, Phillip Morris U.S.A. has contributed in excess of $700,000 to establish and maintain the Phillip Morris Career Scholarship Program at Jefferson Community College. Scholarships from this program are awarded to adult students who have been away from a formal education environment for at least a year. Phillip Morris U.S.A. also contributed $270,000 to establish the Strengthening the Bridge Mentor Program to help prepare Jefferson Community College students for employment and transfer to four-year educational institutions. Countless students have benefited from these two programs. These students, in spite of other challenges and obligations, have still made education a priority in their lives. |
