The Whitesburg Campus of Southeast Community College would not exist today had it not been for the enthusiastic support of individuals like Goebel and Pauline Caudill Ritter. In fact, it was the Ritters idea to renovate an abandoned bottling plant and convert it in to a college campus. The couple helped lead efforts to raise $1 million for the campus, which now serves more than 500 students. Mrs. Ritter also supported the College by serving as chair of Letcher Countys major gifts campaign. The family has provided direct assistance to more than a dozen students through the James and Atha Caudill Scholarship Fund, established in memory of Mrs. Ritters parents. The College is honored to count Mr. and Mrs. Ritter among its most generous friends and benefactors. |

The $70,000 Bosendorfer grand piano that stands majestically in the Black Box Theatre of Southeast Community Colleges Appalachian Center has served as the centerpiece for many fine performances. Donated by the Bank of Harlan, the piano has greatly enhanced the cultural enrichment opportunities the College is able to provide the community. The gift is one of many made by the bank to support the Southeast Education Foundations performing arts series. In addition to monetary gifts, the bank has provided important leadership with its president, Ed Parsons, serving on the Board of Directors from 1995 to 2000. The Bank of Harlan has consistently given year after year and become one of the Colleges most reliable benefactors. |
