Just last year, Bob Bruflat lost his wife, Anne Biven.  Ms. Biven was a 1979 graduate of Jefferson Community Colleges Nursing Program.  She was a dedicated nursing professional who, after several years as a practicing nurse, returned to Jefferson Community College to serve as an adjunct faculty member.  At the time of her death, Mr. Bruflat choose to honor his late wifes memory by donating over $35,000 to JCC establishing the Anne Biven Nursing Textbook Fund, which provides funding for textbooks and supplies to students in the Nursing Program.  The College is grateful for Mr. Bruflats kind and innovative gift.  The fund will stand as a lasting example of both Anne and Bobs warm, caring and generous natures.

Norton Healthcare has been a stalwart supporter of Jefferson Community Colleges Allied Health Programs through its contributions of over $170,000.  Most notably, they contributed $100,000 to establish the Norton Healthcare Scholarship Endowment that provides much needed financial support to students enrolled in JCCs Allied Health programs.  Norton also provided $70,000 to establish and support the Colleges Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.  These, along with Norton Healthcares other monetary gifts and support, have enabled Jefferson Community College to provide Louisville with trained healthcare professionals whose medical expertise improve the viability of the city.  With each students success, everyone at the College is reminded of the key role that Norton Healthcare has played in the Colleges achievements in Allied Health instruction.

For many years, Jefferson Technical and Northern Kentucky Technical Colleges have benefited from  participation in the Toyota Technical Education Network (T-TEN).  Last year alone, the Colleges received more than $190,000 worth of Toyota automobiles and tools to be used in the classroom to teach students Toyota-specific aspects of auto repair. As two of only a select few vocational and community colleges across the nation, the Colleges have been able to offer students hands-on training on sophisticated diagnostic equipment and state-of-the-art Toyota and Lexus products provided through the T-TEN Program.  Through the generosity of Toyota Motor Sales, USA and its innovative T-TEN program, many students have received the skills and training needed to pursue a career in the lucrative field of automotive repair.  Toyota supports the students and college in other ways as well. For example, in October of this year Toyota donated approximately $1,000 for a banquet to recognize the June 2001T-TEN graduates and their families.

At the time of his death in May of this year, one Louisville newspaper described Al J. Schneider as a quiet man of charity.  The JCC Educational Foundation benefited greatly from his philanthropy when he lowered the purchase price of a building he sold to the JCC Educational Foundation by over 1 million dollars.  This generous act enabled the Foundation to buy the building and provide Jefferson Community and Jefferson Technical Colleges a facility to expand their services to meet the growing demands of students as well as local business and industry.  Throughout his life, Mr. Schneider demonstrated his profound belief in supporting education and reaching out to those in greatest need.  Both colleges will continue this tradition in the new Jefferson Educational Center as they enhance existing programs and create new ones to provide the citizens of the area with the educational tools needed for success.
