Pikeville Methodist Hospital has supported the academic efforts of the nursing programs and other training programs at Mayo Technical and Prestonsburg Community Colleges for several years as a donor and program facilitator. These combined efforts have made way for many students to become part of our hospital community and have included opportunities in the area of nursing as well as in technology fields. Pikeville Methodist has worked with the medical assistant program providing expertise in the areas of transcription, respiratory therapy, central registration and others. The hospital is currently working with the school towards providing instruction on medical coding for our medical records department. The hospital supports these students by helping them stay in the community and provides them with opportunities close to home once they complete their course of study. |

Mayo Technical College and Prestonsburg Community College, which comprise the Big Sandy Community and Technical College District, have been recipients of numerous donations and other involvement by the management of Citizens. In recent history Citizens National Corporation acquired The Bank Josephine, a Prestonsburg, Kentucky (Floyd County) based institution. Following their merger into Citizens National Bank, the bank set up a Bank Josephine Scholarship Endowment Fund which provides a $500 annual scholarship for one senior from each of the six high schools in Floyd County. To show its support for the establishment of the Big Sandy Community and Technical College District, Citizens was a sponsor for the inauguration of the Districts first Chief Executive Officer, Dr. George D. Edwards. The directors, officers, and employees of Citizens continue to show their support for higher education in the Big Sandy Valley and are involved in numerous efforts to this end. |

Highlands Regional Medical Center has networked with Prestonsburg Community College, Mayo Technical College and the Big Sandy College Educational Foundation, Inc. since the early 70's to provide quality nursing programs assuring the Big Sandy a continued supply of healthcare nursing professionals. Recently, HRMC supported the colleges through donations for computer lab equipment, catering services for community events, and a collaborative partnership between the Fitness/Wellness Centers at PCC and HRMC. Harold Warman, Jr., President and CEO of Highlands Regional Medical Center and its parent company, Consolidated Health Systems, looks at their generosity as being "part of HRMC's organizational mission to look for opportunities where we can collaborate services, better utilize area resources and continue efforts to develop a healthier community." |
