Cisco Systems, Inc. became the largest donor in the young history of KCTCS with its donation of more than $1.1 million in equipment, training, and financial support to establish Cisco Networking Academies across the Commonwealth. Cisco Networking Academies teach students to design, maintain, and troubleshoot computer networks. The Cisco curriculum is localized to meet the needs of high schools and two-year Colleges and features hands-on, project-driven training in high-demand job skills. The KCTCS/Cisco Partnership includes 10 Regional Academies where students can work towards an associate�s degree in network information systems and continue their education at four-year institutions. Cisco Systems, based in San Jose, CA, is the fastest-growing company in the history of the computer industry and is the third highest valued company in the world with a market capitalization over $300 billion.

Accepting the award is President and CEO, Ashland Inc., Mr. Paul Chellgren
The first major gift received by the KCTCS Foundation following its creation in August, 1999 came from the Ashland Inc. Foundation. Their $200,000 commitment will enable KCTCS to implement the Employability Certification Program, which will teach employability competencies such as success-oriented teamwork, effective communication, resource management, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. The interdisciplinary curriculum, which includes mathematics, applied physics, computer literacy, job readiness, communications, drafting, quality, and safety, will enhance an individual�s ability to work in a variety of jobs and perform multiple tasks. Funds from Ashland Inc. Foundation will provide the equipment, faculty training, curriculum development for up to 5 pilot sites throughout Kentucky and form the basis for access on a statewide basis. Their support will also help to underwrite the costs of mounting and managing KCTCS�s statewide advancement initiatives, including operational support of the KCTCS Foundation, Inc.
