Beginning with the establishment of the First Federal Education Fund in 1986, First Federal Savings & Loan Association has been there to support Hazard Community and Technical Colleges in every endeavor. First Federal has shown their belief in education for the residents of the eastern Kentucky area since then by establishing yet another scholarship fund for Hazard Community and Technical Colleges, providing support for equipment and furnishings for the Learning Resource Center, supporting annually the Greater Hazard Area Performing Arts Series, and furnishing and equipping the Lewis A. Hopper Student Center. Hazard Community College and Hazard Technical College are very proud to count First Federal Savings and Loan as one of our most dedicated supporters and friends.

The Marie R. & Ervin Turner Education Foundation, Inc. established the John R. Turner Scholarship with Hazard Community College and Hazard Technical College to help improve the quality of life for the people of Breathitt County, Kentucky. Mr. Turner�s desire was to give every student the opportunity to go to College and improve his or her educational level without economic hindrance. He knew that a community of well-educated citizens would result in the improved quality of life about which he dreamed. The Foundation believes that John R. Turner could see the future and the impact this scholarship fund would have on the lives of Breathitt County citizens. With the introduction of his scholarship fund, the dreams for many students will begin to unfold.

Peoples Bank and Trust has always seemed to make supporting Hazard Community College one of its top priorities. Year after year Peoples Bank continues to not only provide support for immediate needs such as the Greater Hazard Area Performing Arts Series, but also for other major projects, such as endowing a scholarship in the bank�s name as well as providing funding for the Student, Classroom, and Economic Development Center and the Clemons Center Endowment. When Hazard Community College starts counting their various friends and supporters, Peoples Bank & Trust Company will always be on the very top of our list.

When you mention Kentucky River Coal Corporation at Hazard Community College and Hazard Technical College it always reminds people of the support that this company has given to the citizens of our region, whether by providing scholarships to both Colleges, or by contributing funds for the Kentucky River Coal Academic Computing Center housed on the Hazard Community College campus. Their most recent donation has been for equipment and furnishings in the Student, Classroom, and Economic Development Center, built in 1999. Because of the generosity demonstrated by Kentucky River Coal Corporation, students will reap the benefits of this support for many years to come.

Being Honored by the Hazard Independent College Foundation
Over the years, when Hazard Community College has needed financial support for one project or another, The City of Hazard is generally the first to step forward. The City, with Mayor William D. Gorman�s leadership, is always there to provide monetary support, as well as leadership, for HCC. The City has provided financial resources to fund scholarships, building projects, as well as support for the Greater Hazard Area Performing Arts Series. We are deeply honored to know that the City of Hazard is always there when Hazard Community College needs help.

Edward L. Clemons, better known to the people of Hazard as �Buggy�, believed in education to help the young people of Kentucky. In 1997, Buggy made a $1.0 million pledge to Hazard Community College to be used for several campus projects. On October 6, 2000 a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the facility that will be a lasting monument to the memory of Buggy Clemons and all that he has done for Hazard Community College and the community. As part of her speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, Buggy�s wife Julie Clemons said, �Buggy didn�t give money to this College to have his name put on a building, he gave it because he wanted to help the young people�. Through the fulfillment of his commitment to Hazard Community College by the Clemons Family, Buggy will continue to touch many lives for generations to come.
J. Phil Smith, Jackson

J. Phil Smith seems to be a name synonymous with the Lees College Campus of Hazard Community College. He has been a member of the Lees College, Inc. Board of Trustees for 41 years. Mr. Smith, through his leadership role as President of Lees Inc., as well as the support of First National Bank, has provided the Lees College Campus of Hazard Community College resources that have enabled the College to positively impact students from around the region. Mr. Smith has a vast understanding of the importance of education and has shown it in so many ways through the Lees College Campus of Hazard Community College and will always be counted as one of our dearest friends.

In 1994, Lee�s College presented The Telford Foundation with a proposal to enhance and expand the academic computing resources for the College. Since that time, The Telford Foundation has made this request part of their annual philanthropy. As a result of their generosity, computing resources have expanded into a building on the Lee�s College Campus of Hazard Community College know as the Telford Center. The Foundation was created and funded by the generosity of the late Robert L. Telford to administer annual gifts of income to certain charitable organizations and educational institutions chosen by him as deserving of his philanthropy. The Lee�s College Campus of Hazard Community College continues to be grateful to be chosen as one of those deserving institutions.
