Emergency Medical Service (EMS) leaders from across the state will be in Lexington this week to learn how they can work smarter to save lives. They will be attending the EMS Administrators Forum on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Hilton Suites (Lexington Green) from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

The Kentucky Fire Commission will be escorting families of fallen firefighters from across the state to the 34th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Activities will be held October 2-5 at the memorial located on the campus of the National Fire Academy.

Loretta Jean Elder, a professor of nursing at Madisonville Community College (MCC), has been selected as a recipient of the 2015 Acorn Award. The award was presented during the luncheon program for the Governor’s Conference on Postsecondary Education Trusteeship on Monday, September 28 in Lexington.

The 15th annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial service will honor and remember Kentucky firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty to protect the citizens of Kentucky. The service will be held at 11 a.m. on September 30 at Juniper Hills Park, 800 Louisville Rd (US 60) in Frankfort.

The event is free and will be held at the Pritchard Community Center, located at 404 S. Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Twelve students from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) will be honored at the second annual Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame (KVHOF) induction ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on September 26 at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort.

Kentucky Coal Academy Mine Rescue team member Taber Tichenor was recently named the 2015 National Mine Rescue Bench BioPak Champion after competing in the National Mining Association’s Coal Mine Rescue, First Aid, Bench and Preshift Competition, which was held Sept. 14-17 in Lexington.
