KCTCS Colleges Make Presentations
At Enrollment Management Workshop

Two KCTCS Colleges made presentations during the recent enrollment management workshop in Lexington. The topic of the two-day session was "Modes and Models in Designing and Implementing a Successful Advising Program", and Elizabethtown Community College and Ashland Community College discussed their advising strategies.

The presenters from Elizabethtown Community College were Dr. John Burke, dean of student affairs, and Sharon Spratt, director of counseling. They discussed a new program at ECC in which first time freshmen are assigned an adviser. Burke and Spratt told the other workshop participants about how they enlisted faculty support for the program, and how the college integrated orientation and a freshman success course with the freshman advisory program. Spratt said about 20 faculty members serve as advisers.

Barbara Nicholls reported on Ashland Community College's advising system called "master advising." She said that all new freshmen are assigned an adviser. The adviser works with the student until he or she has completed all required developmental courses and declared a major. Ashland CC has 15 trained faculty members who serve as master advisers.
