A businessman from the Greater Cincinnati Area has been named director of external relations for the KCTCS Northern Kentucky District. Dorsey W. Jones (see photo) will focus on the analysis and assessment of area and business/industry needs as Northern Kentucky Technical College transitions to a community and technical college, and KCTCS expands its services in the region. Jones' executive experience in the Greater Cincinnati Area includes serving as: president, Bank One-Northern Kentucky district; vice president, corporate business development, West Shell Realtors; and district director of marketing, Delta Air Lines, Inc. |

Timothy Glotzbach (see photo) has been named the founding director and dean of the new Kentucky School of Craft in Hindman. The school is an affiliated program of Hazard Community College. For more than 20 years, Glotzbach served as professor of art, jewelry/metalsmith at Eastern Kentucky University, serving two years as chairman of the EKU art department. He has also taught at State University of New York in Oswego. |

NASCAR crew chief Howard Comstock (see photo) of Richard Petty Enterprises recently visited Central Kentucky Technical College (CKTC), where he conducted a lunchtime training session. A large crowd attended the event, which was open to the public and reported by three television stations and the Lexington newspaper. Comstock discussed oil changes, fuel injectors and how to check belts and hoses, and then participated in a question and answer session. He stated his strong support for technical colleges, and invited automotive technology students to send him their resumes. CKTC also sponsored a booth at the Bluegrass Fair. |

Pam Wilson, faculty member at Owensboro Community College, recently was appointed to the Owensboro Sister Cities Board of Directors by the mayor. Wilson also was elected to serve a four-year term as vice president of the sister cities board.
Maysville Community College recently held its annual Summer Scholarship Scramble. One hundred and ten golfers participated in the tenth annual event. Money raised as a result of the tournament is used to fund scholarships for student attending Maysville CC.
Maysville CC will host an open house/job fair on August 6 to provide information about new technical programs and manufacturing job opportunities. The college will begin offering 38 new program options this fall.
Randal Wilson of Hopkinsville Community College recently completed an internationally recognized leadership program. Wilson - industrial and engineering technology program coordinator, and chair of the math and physical sciences and related technologies division - graduated from the Academy for Leadership Training and Development. The academy, in combination with the Chair Academy of Mesa, Arizona, provides organizational leadership training to community and technical colleges chairs, deans and other administrators from throughout the world. The program includes a yearlong practicum experience.
The Hopkinsville Community College Foundation is sponsoring an asset protection/estate-planning seminar in Cadiz on August 22.
Ashland Technical College, Ashland Community College and Morehead State University are jointly presenting "College in Ashland" at the Ashland Town Center July 26 and at Wal-Mart July 28. Area residents can visit the event and learn about admission procedures, financial aid, and fall classes/program options.
Ben Taylor, dean of academic affairs at Ashland TC, has accepted a similar position at Moberly Area Community College in Missouri.
Six students from the Machine Tool Technology Program at Somerset Technical College won a postsecondary silver medal in chapter business procedure during the recent 37th annual Leadership Conference and Skills USA-VICA Championship held in Kansas City, Mo. The coach of the team is Daniel Burnett, associate professor for machine tool technology. The event is the largest and most diverse showcase of skill training in the nation, with more than 4,000 students competing in skill and leadership contests.
Somerset TC held an "Information and College Advising Night" on July 17, and Somerset Community College held a "VIP Day" for prospective students on July 18. At both events, faculty, counselors and staff were available to answer questions about classes, admission and financial aid.
Somerset CC recently hosted an economic development summit at its McCreary Center. The agenda included discussion of a program called "Launching Pad," which provides temporary facilities (commonly referred to as incubators) for new businesses.
