Getting Started

Getting Started with KCTCS Distance Learning Education

FIRST: Check out the KCTCS Distance Learning Programs Page to learn what program you may be interested in pursuing. Be sure to click on the back button of your browser to return to this page.

NEXT: Choose a KCTCS College near you that offers the program you wish to pursue. After you have viewed the KCTCS College's page, you will need to click your back button in your browser to return to this page. Remember: All community colleges offer the Associate of Arts degree, but the technical colleges do not. Only a few of the colleges offer the Associate of Applied Science Information Technology degree.

THEN: Choose either of the following two options:

  1. Go to the KYVC to request class(es) by completing the Distance Learning application.

This request will go to the KCTCS College Registrar at the college for which you are applying. You are not automatically admitted at this point. Once admitted, this will become your "Home College".

To be Admitted: Provide a high school transcript or GED report and assessment/placement scores. If you have ACT scores of 18 in Reading, 18 in English, and 19 in Math, you do not have to take the Placement Assessment. If your ACT scores are not this high, you will need to take the COMPASS or ASSET assessment. The Registrar at your Home College can tell you where to go to take it. As soon as your application is submitted via KYVC, you will be assigned an advisor who will contact you.

  2. Contact a KCTCS college to request an application. Submit it directly to the college.

After you are admitted you can register on campus for Distance Learning classes during the college's registration period. If you go this route, you will be assigned an advisor on campus. Go to College Contacts for the link to Registrar names and numbers.

Contact a Distance Learning Advisor at your Home College who will help you become academically successful.
